Why was Patriotic action so limited, rather pathetic really and after all the big talk from Nationalist 'Boy Wonders', not least in and around the Plaid Cymru Young Nationalist Association who could not decide whether or not they wanted to be Rebels or Plant Crachach Camp Followers pulling down sign posts and not plotting to more militantly challenge English Rule in Wales with radical demonstrations in Caernarfon on Investiture day. So their key players swung both ways, running with the hounds (militants) and the hares of Plaid Cultural Nationalism although in all fairness some of their number did become good Anti - Investiture Activists as Phil Henri and Robert ap Steffan. Some of these Pobl YNA are still with us today, over the years some as Roy 'Jac' Jones departed from Plaid Cymru and became and remained an 'Alternative Nationalist', involved in such as Y Cyfamodwyr and Welsh Independence Party also for a time editor of Ein Gwlad Radical Nationalist Journal. Other YNA associates as Gareth ap Sion became with Adferwr Neil ap Siencyn became key supporters of Adfer and later leading Cultural Nationalist Republicans. However, their radical nationalism did not run so far as to join the ranks of the 'Active' FWA but rather with the 'Pub Passive FWA' who would manouvre with they in pubs as The Lamb in Merthyr. During WW I you would find regiments as the 'Artist Rifles' unforunatly The YNA and FWA sort to be found in pubs were just Piss Artists, today those that survived the 'Sixties' to the present day are often referred to as not so much 'Old Comrades' but more 'Good Ole Boys', usually to be found in pubs as the Tafarn Llywelyn in Cilmeri and Mochyn Ddu in Cardiff and no doubt many other pubs around about Cymru/Wales.
Plant Crachach/CyIG whilst initially puting a lot of weight behind the Anti - Investiture Campaign in it's early stages, towards the days leading up to 1st July 'copped out' in a big way, a very big way which did undermine plans to cause an Investiture 'Crack Up' in Caernarfon. There had been secret talks with the more militant members of CyIG and it was suggested that a group from within their ranks would focus on a strategy in and around Caernarfon by means of passive Resistence and Obstructive Vandalism. This would entail that they had teams going around the night before the Investiture over a wide area around Caernarfon to the East pulling down road signs or turning them around to cause traffic disruptions and thus congestion confusion. further, this radical CyIG element were convinced they could also organise groups to hold sit downs on key roads into Caernarfon on the outskirts, if they had pulled this off it would have been a major contribution to messing up Investiture day big time to point of it perhaps being cancelled.
However, this was not to happen as to why? possibly the Plant Crachach leadership got to hear about it and put a stop to it? Whatever, we know for sure that in the weeks leading up to the Investiture the Plant Crachach leadership was taking fright and becoming concerned, not least Dafydd Iwan who had stuck his neck out was feeling the heat as was his family in a number of nasty ways, not just threatening letters either? Not least no doubt that Plant Crachach was also worried stiff with all that was coming into the light of day at the FWA trial in Swansea, the plotting and planning for some really wild stuff, no doubt too wild for the Plant Crachach Pacifists. Further, I just get the feeling that Plant Crachach leadership had been approached by the authorities, if not the Special Squad who lay it out to them quite simply 'Cooperate Or Your Finnished' by that they meant Personally, Socially and Economically. Thus a week before the Investiture Plant Crachach called for a National Protest Rally at the Cilmeri Cenotaph, the conclusion of which was their leadership calling off their Anti - Investiture Campaign and calling upon Patriots to boycott the Investiture and stay away from Caernarfon.
Whatever, of course there were other reasons why Caernarfon did not turn out like the Battle of Seattle, the radical Anti - Investiture leadership had been disrupted with many of it's more militant members arrested, put on trial and imprisoned. During week leading up to the Investiture a great number of activists particularly of the Patriotic Front and other radical nationalists were put under a form of 'House Arrest' by being constantly watched and followed. No doubt if they had attempted going to Caernarfon they would have been detained and become 'disappeared' for 24 hours. Other than that Caernarfon was under a Police/Military Lock Down but this did not stop radical Nationalist youth in Gwynedd from carrying out direct action against the Investiture in towns of Gwynedd as was also carried out else where in Wales, a story yet to be fully researched and told. Thus Adfywiad Gwladgarwyr Gwynedd and in other parts can hold their heads high and lets not forget the MAC Resistence Groups who did go out to carry out their brave military actions against the Investiture, not least the two Abergele Martyrs.
Recently Dewi Pws did a feature on the Investiture in his S4C TV series, by all accounts a good patriotic feature which I did no see, so cannot comment on too much even though it's been described to me. However, the 'Home Truths' remain that the Black Boy Pub is full of Investiture and English Princes of Wales pictures and souvenirs, why Patriots do not boycott this pub I find rather pathetic compared to how the Irish would deal with such shit! Not least that English Princes of Wales exhibition in Caernarfon Castle, in 40 years there has been no protests from Gwynedd Patriots about this or even attempt to set up an alternative nationalist view as Native Americans have done at the Battle of the Little Big Horn Site. Then there is all this Wylit! Wylit! wheeping re Cofia 1282 and all that soft sentimentality annually in December with Patriotic Pointless Rallying at Cilmeri, why? Because not one of these proffessional poets and singers or whatever, grant grabbing Cymru can get up the nerve to protests against visit of English Queen to Caernarfon, William on Ynys Mon and Carlo in Ystrad Tywi, not least their silence regards any future Investiture or that Royal Wedding in April.

Pathetic Pointless Patriotism Prevails, as good as the above might appear I will have more respect for Celebs/Crachach Cymru plc, not least Bards and Poets when they actually stand up and cross the line and shout out loud what they lead us to believe is in their hearts, ENGLISH ROYALTY GET LOST! There's chance to do that soon in April, c'mon provide some real radical leadership, never mind the well heeled paying jobs and 'Saxon Silver' better to be up front ready for the barricades and working as a dust man or street sweeper or like I a Kitchen Porter than be so silent and as a Patriot recently wrote in Y Cymro, so muted about the Bradwyr as Dafydd Elis Thomas, Huw Edwards and Rhiannon Evans et all grovelling and Taffy Forelock tugging over that English Royal Wedding on 29 April 2011. Remember now as I might be dead or too feeble in old age, so out there who will be getting ready to stirr up a storm and maybe a Battle of Caernarfon next time around. Get inspired from below but take aboard the message Non Violance is the way forward as Militancy could be counter productive as it maybe was in '69 as it devided the opposition to the Investiture. That's got to be one conclusion to be considred in planning and preparing for the third Investiture to be held in Caernarfon, possibly in the not too distant future.
