I include this here as at time the Bridge had come under threat from the FWA and there had been publicity on this in various newspapers but, I have no cuttings referring to this in my archive. No FWA action was taken but the night before the bridge was open two car loads of Patriotic Fronters left the PF Club in Cwmbran with purpose to daub up as many slogans as possible on roads on the Welsh Side leading away from the Severn Bridge in a number of directions. All the usual nationalist slogans were put up but I guess the best was that one painted on new huge directional sign posts, done in huge letters on one sign it stated:
WELCOME TO WALES......
On the next Sign Post was painted:
....YOU ENGLISH BASTARDS....
on the next sign:
....NOW GO HOME OK!
Yea! pretty nasty, racist maybe but those were the days my freind, Could not do it today, too many bloody CCTV cameras damn it! Plus of course I am not anti - 'Sais' anymore as I might have been a little bit 'back in the day'.
