Many accounts of the Caernarfon Investiture of 1 July, focus on what was after all the shouting by patriots and worrying by the authorities, was not such a riot of a day! I had been working towards a right riot and preparing for such up to the time of my arrest in February of that year. However, much material prepared calling for a riot with talk of using marbles to bring down the horses in Investiture parade, throwing smoke bombs and spuds with embedded razor blades at the Royal Party and Royal Paraders was as much 'Black Propaganda' to stirr things up but be in no doubt some very serious business was being planned for sure to bring about 'Chaos Caernarfon' as we tagged the whole project. As well letters and leaflets were put into circulation calling upon nationalists to head for the hills and arm up with slings, staves and pikes, whatever, to take on the police and soldiers on outskirts of Caernarfon. These ideas came from study of riots that had swept Europe in the 1968 'Year of Revolution' and sure we were going to 'Seize The Time' and look for the beach beneath the paving stones!

Much depended on the FWA being prepared and organised to lead even a limited version of this plan, they were not and so that never looked as if it would happen on a grand scale.
The Abergwesyn Camp proved the FWA was not actually up to very much, then surrendering their arms certainly knocked their Welsh Office - Dublin

style take over on the head. After that the PF focused more on furthering our own plans with really serious useful FWA Volunteers but for the most part within ranks of the whole Anti - Investiture Campaign Movement. As anyway we had already detirmined not to use Guns or explosives nor even Molitov Cocktails in any aspect of our plans, as that might have been too dangerous to ourselves as much as the Royals. We were sticking to our own PF Adfywiad Agit - Prop Ideas and Initiatives both for activation and use in and around Caernarfon in days leading up to Investiture and on 'I - Day' itself. At the same time we had to continue to organise 'Above Ground' protests and demonstrations to keep up the Patriotic Pressure.

were continuously carried out not least by Cymdeithas yr Iaith
, in all this activity it was not just by PF members involved. Members of other radical groups as Plaid Cymru Young Nationalist Association members, members of the Celtic League/Youth Congress. The latter via contacts in Ireland and Scotland assisted a P.F. member in going to Scotland and establishng 'Safe Houses' for PF Investiture Sabotage Groups prior and post 'I - Day'.

Why 'Safe Houses', the plan was to hit Caernarfon hard with Creative Radicalism, Constructive Vandalism and Passive Obstructionism, it was taken that many of us would be arrested. But we were also organising a contingencty of an organised retreating withdrawel, getting out of the Town and heading for Scotland back to our Safe Houses and from they to Ireland and then into exile, a few were prepared for this. This handful Cadre of PF Front hard liners would be responsible for carrying out signifigant damaging actions, not to people but to property. They in particular would make way to the Safe Houses in Scotland prior to Investiture Day to avoid possible Internment or arrest in days leading up to 1st July. These 'safe Houses' would then be used by the PF Investiture Sabotage Goups to retreat back to Scotland prior to escape to America obviosly to exile, but the PF Volunteers had accepted that possibility.

Out of which would begin a true National Liberation Struggle, this was not to be as on the one side the then radical Nationalists whom I now call since 'Adfywiadwyr Gwladgarol' were totally politically illeducated and otherwise unprepared to carry out an effective Adfywiad Gwladgarol. Plus same regards mounting and carrying out a long term major National Liberation Struggle, we were young revolutionary novices and did not even have the rebellious traditions has Ireland had. That was a mistake in our thinking, for we did but with the peasant and workers of the post 1536 Act of Union, but our heads had been turned towards Welsh Princes in the middle Ages. What a fat load of Wylit, Wylit good such was then, since not least in our present times. To continue: I, Toni Lewis and Glyn Rowlands as Patriotic Front members, were central radical campaigners against the Investiture and Co - Conspirators in planning and preparing to run riot in Caernarfon on Investiture day itself. Whilst FWA Commandants engaged in discussion of Irish GPO style uprisings argueing the case for that taking place in Caernarfon or Cardiff, in a take over of the Welsh Office in Cathays Park. This certainly had potential with all and everyone of the Establishment plus most of the State Security up in Caernarfon, the Welsh office would have been easier to take than Caernarfon Castle though I had no intention of doing that as part of our plan. Denis Coslet however, did appear to be serious about the Welsh Office take over and with guns too? I,Toni and Glyn discussed the virtue of this and the Abergwesyn Camp was in part to discover how up to scratch the FWA were for such a 'Take Over' or preferably engaging in limited sabotage around Caernarfon as knocking out electric power stations and telephone exchanges etc.

Glyn Rowland our PF/FWA liaision officer was to look into this aspect of our PF 'I - Day' plan useing the Swiss Army book TOTAL RESISTENCE' appropriated from Bridgend Library to such purpose.
The idea being for Glyn looking into what could be done around Caernarfon to crack up Investiture organisation as causing confusion along Roads and Rails into Gwynedd, knocking out power, possible to do with out explosives, destroying GPO Telephone exchanges with sledge hammers. Much more, major and minor means by which the Investiture could be as far as possible wrecked.
Toni Lewis was appointed to look into 'special projects' as his favoured plan being the use of model missiles and model aero planes loaded not with explosives but smoke bombs and even gowshit. All this might sound fantastical but Toni was extremly clever, years later I seen him put together model planes with video cameras to film the Coast of the Isle of Man successfully. If anyone could have done it Toni could have, all we needed to make it work was a 'safe house' in Caernarfon Town and three had been made available of our use. These were also our PF Caernarfon 'Investiture Sabotage Groups operational bases, intended to be occupied by us in days leading up to the Investiture so that we could slip out into the town to carry out our 'Chaos Caernarfon' preparation activity by night. This was to be my area of concern, I am not going to go into all that had been thought up as why tip the authorities off when such might be of future Caernarfon Investiture III use? No Police panic here please! such does not include use of Bombs or Bullets and are less violent than recent London Riots, nor 'Chaos Caernarfon' then was in main limited to mass use of smoke bombs in a verity of ways. As placing in drains, telephone boxes and in empty properties to make it appear as if there were fires. Imagine the chaos with police and fire engines all over the place and unsuing public panic, we had considered that this might still cause public injury but warnings would have been given so crowds could have been marshalled to safe areas. Next time around. I guess High Tech will be called for, that's beyond me so I am out of frame for an attempted 'Chaos Caernarfon III'. Over and Out!

It's Wales's day to remember PRINCE: POLICE, TROOPS IN 'BLANKET SECURITY'.......POLICE ACT CAERNARFON BIG CHECK ON SECURITY GAPS....In many ways we had won a limited victory for to carry out the 1969 Investiture, the English State and the Welsh Quisling Regime had to use, not only Welsh Police but 2000 Coppers from all over British Isles. Plus 2.500 members of the three armed forces and we will probably never know how many but also in and around Caernarfon was the Jock Wilson Goons of the Shrewsbury based 'Special Squad' sent into Cymru/Wales to hunt town the 'Terrorists'. Of course that also meant without doubt nuetralise and negate the Civilian Resistence campaign against the investiture most notably that lead, organised and carried out by the Patriotic Front. Thus was I on their hit list and soon taken in to Bridgend Police H.Q. to be questioned by a gang of S.S, they even threatened me with electric shock torture. Years later at a family social occaision, I met an ex - policeman who had witnessed this and he told me that he was both embarrased and horrified by the threats made against me. Not all Welsh Coppers were badies, many resented the 'English Goons' of the Jock Wilson Shrewsbury S.S and did not fully cooperate with them, did any sympathise with us? now that would be telling would'nt it! Lets just say, there are reasons I am not to this day against 'Our Uniformed Welsh Bobbies' and Adfywiadyr should do nought to make them enemies to our struggle. Otherwise wait a few years for my book Welsh Remembrancer.

Premises throughout Caernarfon were searched as were, basements and tunnels under the town. Guards were placed on key buildings and along the Menai Straits close to the Castle and town, Police dog patrols were increased in the wooded areas along the river Seiont and mobile Police Patrols in and around the town were in constant operation. Miltary Land Rovers and Motor Cycle patrols led searches aound the town in the countryside searching out drains and under bridges for bombs. Two well guarded Military Camps had been set up and the police were camped down in vacated schools, at the same time Police Helicopter flights scoured the country side of Eryri and North Wales in general, At same time the RAF were flying from North to South, East to West

However, a real disappointment regards consideration of causing a Caernarfon mess up from night before and day of 1st July was the promise by a group of Plant Crachach Radicals to turn out over a wide area to tear down sign posts and even turn some around to mis direct visitors to Caernarfon on the big day. It was even being considered in radical Plant Crachach circles to hold 'sit downs' on roads into Caernarfon, all this was stuff they were pefectly capable of pulling off but did not due to Plant Crachach leader ship getting wind up of such action. I have no doubt the Plant Crachach leadership thinking more of themselves and their 'Crachach Newydd' future, also a number of their Gwynedd leadership and familes had recieved threats from Brit Royal Taff Loyalists. In one instance dog shit was sent to the Mam of a well known Plant Crachach leader, such as this no doubt in some instances very serious threats started to concentrate the minds of the Plant Crachach leadership and thus, what I consider the notorious 'Sell Out' of their Rali at Cilmeri to distract and divert Nationalist attention and action from going to Caernarfon, let alone protesting.

However not all blame for failiure can be attached elswhere, we had not considered the authorities hitting us sooner than we thought. It was this in main that was the undoing of much we were planning. The arrest of the 'Swansea Nine' and in particular the 'PF Three' would undermine much of our plans and undo many preparatios. The PF membership had to refocus much attention on a 'Swansea Nine' Political Prisoners campaign and this, plus increased Secret Police pressure and undermining of the militant campaign by Plaid and Plant Crachach moderates were to weaken the radical Anti - Investiture Campaign. Yet despite much pitted against the Patriotic Civilian Resistence Movement and the continued hunt for MAC Military Resistence 'Freedom Fighters' the struggle was not over, nor was the Anti - Investiture struggle over, far from it. Although, it was easier for the Jock Wilson 'Goons' to work over and weaken the Patriots protest campaigning.

Not so MAC who continued their 'War of Welsh Freedom' now much focused against the Investiture, though they perhaps had made the mistake all new Underground Secret Resistence Movements should avoid. Never at start give the state the excuse to come down on you like a 'Ton of Bricks', perhaps MAC if it had stuck to blowing up pipelines and only disturbing sheep would have survived the Adfywiad Gwladgarol Fawr 1968 - 69. But blowing up buildings in the Welsh Capital and threatening the lives of English Royalty was no doubt a threat to far? However, early days and MAC would still dliver blows to English Security confidence with bombs going off on night of 31st June and on 1st July itself aound and in Caernarfon Town. Neither was Civilian Resistence at an end, over the two days aforementioned and the week that followed Adfywiadwyr Gwladgarol would arise to the call to Patriotic Resurgent Action - The Gwynedd Revolt would send it's shock waves around the country!
